Chicago has been one of the biggest bands in music over the last half century. They produced a steady stream of hit songs in the 1970s and 1980s but have been consistently producing music and performing live since forming in Illinois in 1967. They were called Chicago Transit Authority, which was also the title of their debut album (April 1969). The band later shortened their name to Chicago following a lawsuit filed by the actual mass transit system.
Chicago self-describes themselves as a “rock and roll band with horns.” Their unique sound helped propel them to massive commercial and critical success. They’ve recorded 36 albums and sold over 100 million records. This includes 5 consecutive number-one albums on the Billboard 200. Of their 36 albums, they had 23 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum. Their incredible run of successful records also produced 20 top-ten singles. In 2015, Billboard ranked them 15th in the list of 100 artists all time for Hot 100 singles, and 9th in the list of 100 greatest artists for Billboard 200 (albums) success. Chicago was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm, and James Parknow (original band members) were also elected to Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.
Chicago is well-known for their amazing live shows. In 1971, they became the first rock band to sell out Carnegie Hall for an entire week. The Chicago: VI Decades Live (This is What We Do) Box Set showcases 6 decades of their captivating live performances. The songs included in the box set were recorded between 1969 and 2014, including their entire performance at the Isle of Wright Festival in 1970. It also includes a 24-page booklet illustrated with rare images from the band’s archive.
AMI is proud to offer the music contest to Chicago fans and music lovers. The incredible box set is sure to be a must-have in any rock and roll collection. Contestants are encouraged to use the AMI Music app to enter or visit their favorite AMI jukebox venue.
