Beloved by many and equally as well known for his high-pitched falsetto as he is for his writing (Guinness World Records named him the second most successful songwriter in history, behind Paul McCartney), Barry Gibb’s career has been nothing short of legendary. Gibb started his first band, the Rattlesnakes, in 1955 at the age of 9 with brothers Maurice and Robin, and a few neighborhood friends. The Gibb family moved from the United Kingdom to Australia when Gibb was 12, and it was shortly after that the three brothers began performing as the Bee Gees.
The band shot to superstardom during the disco era and their first Gold record came in 1977 with the funk-influenced Main Course. When the band was approached to create music for the film Saturday Night Fever, the Gibb brothers penned their hits “Night Fever,” “More Than a Woman,” and “Stayin’ Alive” in a single weekend. The album, which won five Grammy Awards and became the top-selling soundtrack of all time, has since been added to the National Recording Registry and the Library of Congress for its cultural significance. The Bee Gees are officially icons.
Following the death of his brothers Maurice in 2003 and Robin in 2012, Barry Gibb has honored them in various ways. A lifelong fan of country music, his latest effort commemorates their time as a band by re-imagining some of the Bee Gees’ biggest hits as country songs.
Recorded at RCA Studios in Nashville, Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers’ Songbook, Vol. 1 is a true tour de force and features some of country music’s greatest artists. A few of the powerhouses duetting with Gibb on the album are Alison Krauss, Olivia Newton-John, Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, and Sheryl Crow. Said Jason Isbell, who sings with Gibb on “Words of a Fool”: “Barry Gibb is one of the greatest songwriters and singers in popular music history and I’m happy to say he still has that beautiful voice and that magical sense of melody. Working with him on this project has been one of the great honors of my career.”
AMI is proud to offer this giveaway to fans of Barry Gibb and the Gibb Brothers. For a limited time, AMI jukeboxes will also be featuring a Barry Gibb playlist that highlights his biggest hits with and without the Bee Gees. All are encouraged to check out the playlist and enter the contest using the AMI Music app or by visiting a nearby AMI jukebox venue.
