Formed in Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young, AC/DC has weathered a storm of highs and lows over the years. Today, they are still known as one of the hardest rocking and best-selling bands of all-time. “Acca Dacca” (as they are known to their Aussie fans) released their first studio album, High Voltage, in 1974, shortly after Bon Scott came on board as lead singer. TV appearances and tours followed, and it wasn’t long before the band enjoyed international success when the re-release of their first album went 3x Platinum in the US.

After the sudden and tragic passing of Bon Scott in 1980, the band joined forces with British singer Brian Johnson. Their first album with their new frontman in place was recorded in seven weeks and released in July 1980. Back in Black, which features the singles “Hells Bells” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” would go on to sell over 50 million copies worldwide. Just short of its 40th anniversary, the album was designated 25x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, making it the biggest-selling rock album of all time.

At the end of their Rock or Bust tour in 2016, the band announced that they were going on hiatus. Brian Johnson’s doctors had ordered him to stop performing due to his advanced hearing loss, drummer Phil Rudd was forced to step back due to legal issues, and bassist Cliff Williams departed, citing personal reasons. It seemed as if this was the end, but after a 4-year break, the band took to social media to arouse suspicion of a comeback.

In September 2020, AC/DC officially announced that they would be reuniting with Johnson, Rudd, Williams, and guitarists Angus and Stevie Young (who replaced co-founder Malcolm Young after his death in 2017). Their new studio album, Power Up, maintains their consistent voice, and as Rolling Stone stated in their review, “sounds unapologetically like AC/DC.” But, is there a tour in the works? The band has stated that they would love to hit the road again once it is safe to do so. “For Those About to Rock…” we hope that day comes soon.
