New Music & A New Giveaway From AMI and Silversun Pickups.

-Prize is a Physical Thrills merchandise bundle.

AMI’s newest giveaway coincides with the release of new music from Silversun Pickups. One fan will win a Physical Thrills merchandise bundle, including a t-shirt, hoodie, and the album on double vinyl. This contest runs August 19, 2022 through August 31, 2022. US residents can enter using the AMI Music app, available on iOS and Android. Contest entry is also available on any participating AMI Jukebox.

The origin of the band dates back to 1994 when guitarist and singer Ben Aubert met bassist Nikki Monninger on a flight from Los Angeles to London, as they were both headed to the University of Cambridge for a student exchange program. It wasn’t until years later that the two joined up with other Los Angeles area musicians: Christopher Gauniao (drums) and Joe Lester (keyboards) to form Silversun Pickups. Their name is a nod to Silversun Liquor, a wine and spirits store that stood across from the Silverlake Lounge– the Sunset Boulevard club where the band got their start.

Pikul, their debut EP was released in 2005, followed quickly by Carnavas in 2006. From this full-length studio album, two singles made the Top 10 of the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Following this was Swoon in 2009, Neck of the Woods in 2012, Better Nature in 2015, Widow’s Weeds in 2019, and now their latest– 2022’s Physical Thrills. The band has toured with greats like OK Go, Snow Patrol, Foo Fighters, Muse, and Placebo, and their songs have appeared in multiple video games including Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, Rocksmith, and others. Aside from touring and recording, they were nominated for Best New Artist at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards and created the one-band soundtrack for comedian Aisha Tyler’s 2017 directorial debut, Axis. Since the pandemic, they’ve been working again with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Green Day). As reported in SPIN magazine:

Physical Thrills came as a result of the boredom brought on by the pandemic, when Aubert was taking care of his son while stuck at home. “I would sneak off and start writing these songs,” Aubert says in a statement, “and I didn’t know what they’re for because I didn’t really think about Silversun on any level. I was just doing it to keep myself calm and keep myself company.”

AMI is excited to offer fans the opportunity to win this Silversun Pickups prize pack. For a limited time, AMI jukeboxes will be featuring a playlist of their songs. Everyone is encouraged to check out the playlist and US residents may enter the contest using the AMI Music app or by visiting a nearby AMI jukebox venue.
