AMI announced a contest to celebrate new album The Fall of Hobo Johnson. One grand prize winner will take home a Hobo Johnson autographed Marshall Bluetooth Speaker, an official album hoodie and t-shirt, and a copy of The Fall of Hobo Johnson. Five runners-up winners will receive a vinyl copy of the new album. The contest is open now through October 9, 2019. Music fans can enter the contest using the AMI Music app, available on iOS and Android. Contest entry is also available on any participating AMI jukebox.

Hobo Johnson exploded on the national music scene when his homemade video for “Peach Scone” went viral. He and his band, the LoveMakers, recorded the video for NPR’s “Tiny Desk” competition last year. It went on to receive millions of views in just a few weeks. The sudden popularity launched his second album The Rise of Hobo Johnson onto the Billboard 200. Shortly after it peaked at #11. The full album is available in the AMI Digital Network.

While listed as a hip-hop artist, Hobo Johnson’s music crosses genres in the creation of something new. His unique vocalizations and raw emotional energy are closer to spoken word than traditional rap. The music itself combines a variety of sounds. Johnson describes his music as “low-fi hip-hop with folk-punk influence.” The open vulnerability he shows in describing the pain of modern dating has clearly resonated with his fanbase.

Hobo Johnson was born Frank Lopes Jr. and grew up in the Sacramento area. At 19 years old, he was kicked out of his house and spent time living in his car. This period of his life became the inspiration of his stage name and first album. Originally, he called himself Homeless Johnson but shortened it to Hobo Johnson. He titled his first album Hobo Johnsons 1994 Corolla (2015). The following year, Johnson started releasing a series of videos on YouTube called “Live from Oak Park” in December 2016.

He originally released his second album in 2016, but then re-released in 2017 with new remixes a different track list. Following the sudden success of “Peach Scone” he and The LoveMakers toured North America and Europe with an additional appearance at Australia’s Falls Music & Arts Festival. In 2019, they appeared at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

They released the new album on September 13, under Warner Bros. The singles “Typical Story” and “UglyKid” came out ahead of the album. Both music videos are available on AMI Music Video jukeboxes. Hobo Johnson and the LoveMakers are currently on tour.

AMI Entertainment is proud to offer this music contest to Hobo Johnson fans and music lovers alike. Contest entry is free and open to all. Music fans are encouraged to enter the contest using the AMI Music app, or by visiting a nearby AMI jukebox venue.
