Born and raised in Virginia, Jason Mraz kicked off his career as a singer/songwriter after his move to California in 1999 at the age of 22. He built a following by performing weekly at a San Diego coffee house and it was during that time he was able to put out a handful of self-released EPs as well as an acoustic album titled Live at Java Joe’s. His major label studio debut—Waiting for My Rocket to Come—came in 2002 after signing with Elektra records and touring with Jewel as her opening act. Three years later, the album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Mraz’s second studio release— 2005’s Mr. A-Z was the basis of a long-running tour which included headlining small venues, acoustic shows, and serving as the opener for acts like Alanis Morissette, the Rolling Stones, James Blunt, and Rob Thomas. With each album garnering more success, he clinched his first Grammy nominations in 2009 (Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocalist for “I’m Yours”) and his first Grammy wins in 2010 (Best Male Pop Vocalist for “Make It Mine” and Best Pop Collaboration for “Lucky” with Colbie Caillat).

In 2014, Mraz delivered his first all-acoustic studio album, which he recorded with folk rock group Raining Jane, who had previously co-written a track for 2008’s We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. They reunited again for his latest release—Mystical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride, which Mraz calls “an album about personal expression, acceptance, and time travel… this album feels like both a reunion of sounds and players, as well as a fresh start in a new sonic territory.” It’s also an album that is coming out not only in June—Pride month—a time for reflecting on the struggles and triumphs of the LBGTQ+ community, something extremely personal and meaningful for Mraz but also on the 23rd—the musician’s 46th birthday. There will also be a US tour that concludes in Queens, NY on August 17th with a one-night-only performance with the iconic New York Pops led by music director and conductor Steven Reineke. The concert will feature Mraz performing selections from his two-decade career arranged for the full symphony orchestra.

For a limited time, AMI jukeboxes will also be featuring a Jason Mraz playlist of his biggest hits throughout the years. Everyone is encouraged to check out the playlist and US residents may enter the contest using the AMI Music app or by visiting a nearby AMI jukebox venue.
