AMI announced a new music contest to win an autographed turntable from singer-songwriter, musician, and actress, Jenny Lewis. The contest celebrates the release of her new album On the Line. Five runners-up will receive a vinyl copy of the new album. The contest is open now and ends April 10, 2019. Music fans can enter the contest using the AMI Music app, available on iOS and Android. Jenny Lewis has been active in music since the late 90s, having released four solo albums, six albums with her former band, Rilo Kiley, and contributed on multiple other projects. She blends elements of indie rock, alt rock, and alt country utilizing clever lyrics and a style all her own. Her new album has already seen critical acclaim. The first half of the album offers commentary on everything from regret (such as “Wasted Youth”) to modern hookup culture, explored in the lead single “Redbull and Hennessy.” The second half of the album takes a more introspective turn, dealing with issues of family dynamics and loss. Lewis recently lost her mother to liver cancer and the themes of struggle, loss, and death are explored.
Lewis’ career began with her acting career as a child. She appeared and movies such as Troop Beverly Hills (1989), and the TV series Brooklyn Bridge (1991-93). She had many other acting appearances as well. Lewis then semi-retired from acting to focus on her music career in the mid 90s. She formed the band Rilo Kiley with other former child stars. They released their debut album, The Initial Friend in 1999. They released five more albums before disbanding 2014.
Lewis released her first solo album, Rabbit Fur Coat , in 2006. That was followed by Acid Tongue in 2008 and The Voyager in 2014. Her fourth and current album, On the Line, was released last month. The album is currently available on the AMI Digital Jukebox Network.
In 2010, Lewis also put out two albums with her then boyfriend Jonathan Rice under the name Jenny & Johnny. She’s worked with many artists as well, including Bright Eyes, The Postal Service, The Watson Twins, Elvis Costello and others. Her various projects have been celebrated by fans and critics alike.
