AMI announced a contest to celebrate Niall Horan’s upcoming album Heartbreak Weather, which releases on March 13, 2020. The grand prize winner will get an autographed turntable and the new album on vinyl. Four runners-up will score their own vinyl copy of Heartbreak Weather. The contest is open now through March 18, 2020. Music fans can enter the contest using the AMI Music app, available on iOS and Android. Contest entry is also available on any participating AMI jukebox.
Niall Horan is an Irish pop singer and guitarist with a heavy folk influence. He rose to superstardom as a member of One Direction. The five-part boy band is one of the bestselling music groups of the last decade. Niall Horan has also achieved major commercial success as a solo artist. His debut solo album, 2017’s Flicker, entered the charts at the top of the Billboard 200 and is certified platinum.
Horan grew up in Mullinger, Ireland. He displayed a natural singing talent from a young age and auditioned for the 2010 season of The X Factor at only sixteen years old. While he didn’t win as a solo artist, he was placed in a band with four other singers at the suggestion of celebrity judge Nicole Scherzinger. The four singers were Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson, who formed the band One Direction. After finishing third in the competition, Simon Cowell signed the group to his label, Syco Entertainment.
One Direction soon exploded onto the music scene with whirlwind success, largely propelled by social media. Their first four albums all debuted at number one, with their fifth and final album reaching number two. Forbes ranked the group as the fourth highest-earning celebrities in the world in 2015 and they ranked second highest in 2016. In addition to their 50 million record sales, the group published several bestselling books and some of the highest grossing tours in the decade. They’ve also won over 200 music awards. The group has been on permanent hiatus since 2016.
Following the hiatus, several members embarked on solo careers. Niall Horan signed with Capital Records in 2016 and released his debut solo single “This Town” in September of the same year. It was the first solo single from any member of One Direction. The song showcased Horan’s folksy-pop style and was generally well-received by critics. It was followed by the single “Slow Hands,” and later “Too Much to Ask.” The music videos for all three singles are available on the AMI Digital Network. He supported the album with the 2018 “Flicker World Tour.”
In October 2019, Horan released the lead single “Nice to Meet Ya” from the upcoming album. It was followed by “Put a Little Love on Me” in December and “No Judgement” in February 2020. All three singles are featured on his highly anticipated second album. He will be embarking the “Nice to Meet Ya Tour” beginning in April 2020.
